CBRE | The Office Reset

Cbre Newsarticle

What will offices look like after Corona? One thing is clear: the world after corona will look very different from the world before corona. CBRE speaks of “The Office Reset” and explains in five points what will change in the way of working in the coming years.

In March 2020, CBRE released a research report looking ahead to 2030. The report identified ten ways the real estate world would change through 2030. Among other things, the research predicted that “the end of permanent workplace presence will contribute to productivity growth and personal creativity ”and that“ nearly all employees will be mobile and need a network of locations to be as productive and engaged as possible ”.

Almost immediately after this report came out, far-reaching government measures were announced in connection with the coronavirus outbreak. We are dealing here with a game changer: a shift that has the potential to affect our working methods, social manners and attitudes towards technology for decades to come. Has this new situation changed how we view working from home? And what possibilities does this massive introduction to home working organizations and their employees offer in the longer term?

One thing is clear: the world after corona will look very different from the world before corona. CBRE speaks of “the office reset” and explains in five points what will change in the way of working in the coming years. These five points are summarized as:

  1. Accelerated popularization of flexible working.
  2. Rethinking office design.
  3. More added value in smart buildings.
  4. Extra focus on health and healthy workplaces.
  5. Build organizational resilience.

Trends in office work have accelerated as organizations have had to adapt during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the long run, remote work may complement, but not replace, the capabilities of a physical workplace. The aim must be a “mixed reality”, in which employees have access to a wide arsenal of technological solutions and can determine themselves where and how they work. The workplace of the future is expected to be much more dynamic than that of today.
